Maternity Dress Size Guide: How to Find Your Fit

Ordering a dress for a body that's changing every week is a different problem from ordering a regular dress. You're not choosing a size for who you are today, you're choosing one for who you'll be at 12 weeks, 28 weeks, and 38 weeks, and ideally after the baby arrives too.

Here's how to choose with confidence.

Start with your pre-pregnancy size

Our sizes range from XS to XL. Begin with the size you wore before pregnancy, then adjust based on the fit you want.

If you want a more snug fit, size down. Our dresses are made from Lenzing Modal and spandex, which gives them a lot of stretch, so a smaller size will still expand comfortably over a growing bump.

If you're between sizes, we also recommend sizing down for the same reason, unless you're after a roomier, less fitted look. In that case, stay with the larger size.

Why one dress works across all three trimesters

Because of the fabric blend, our dresses are made to grow with you from day one through all three trimesters, and through postpartum, the fourth trimester. As your belly expands from the first trimester into the second and third, you need a dress that stretches with you but also recovers to its original form, so it doesn't sag or lose its shape.

We test every design on pregnant fit models of different sizes. These aren't runway models. They're everyday moms with body proportions like yours and mine. Our sizing is based on a true medium fit model, and we grade up or down from there to build out the rang of sizes.

The three measurements that matter

You can use our measurement chart for guidance. The three that matter most are bust, underbust, and hips.

Your waist is traditionally the smallest part of you, and it changes and expands throughout pregnancy. That makes it the least crucial measurement here, since the dress will stretch over your growing belly regardless.

How to measure

Bust: Wrap the measuring tape straight across your back near your shoulder blades, then around the middle of your bust. Keep the tape flat against your skin, but don't pull it so tight that it compresses your bust.

Underbust: Place the tape directly under your bust, right along your bra line, wrapping around from the back.

Hips: Find the widest part of your hips and wrap the tape horizontally around that area for the most accurate reading.

Quick recap

  • Start with your pre-pregnancy size
  • Want it snug, or sit between sizes? Size down
  • Want a roomy, relaxed look? Stay with the larger size
  • Use bust, underbust, and hip measurements. Skip the waist
